Court again today

For the third time, I took time off from work and headed to the courthouse in Palmer on behalf of Wingnut and her owner.

For the umpteenth time, Leta Belardi lost. The three default judgements entered today

Whoops, not sure what happened to the rest of my entry here.....

the default judgements today, join a lengthy list of previous losses and fines Leta Belardi has accrued here. With a simple search at CourtView and some time, a person could total up the dollar amounts, find the judgements already alloted to the MSB for previous fines unpaid....I don't know for sure how much it is, but I am pretty sure it's north of a couple of grand.

Today's action totalled $450 in fines and court costs, on the three counts she lost by default.

Yes, she could appeal this decision but truthfully I don't think it will fly with the judge. Today's action was a continuance of the trial she requested, and the Boro was prepared and present. Her lame excuse is not going to gain much traction since she had ample time to be there herself.

I think the tiny fine is ridiculous in the face of the amount of time and effort that the Boro went to on the horses' behalf-the time that professionals devoted, heck even the nearly half ream of paperwork that was generated was just stupendous for a misdemeanor default judgement she is going to just blow off and not pay anyway.

If she is successful with an appeal, I did reassure the attorney I remain ready to give my testimony.

A little slow here this afternoon, so I took a look at CourtView.

Leta Belardi has 16 items on there, just for the MSBACR. That does not include one that is still pending. In all 16 cases, she lost, and was fined.

Those fines total $3,680.

She has not paid one dime on any of them that I can see. Absolutely nothing is going to happen with these tickets either, until the sums owed reach some threshold that the DA will address.

When she comes before a judge, no one is allowed to take into consideration prior cases, so the fines and expenses ordered remain small and relatively inconsequential, especially if taken individually.

In the Muni, $3680 worth of unpaid parking tickets would probably get you a bench warrant. In the Mat Su Boro, you get a free pass and no true consequences.

Although I do not wish more governmental regulations, I truly do wish there was a better deterrent on the books, so that when people are cited, the penalty stings.
